A grand pivot door creates an unforgettable architectural entry statement. However, hanging a solid 2.8-meter by 1.4-meter hardwood leaf weighing in excess of 120 kilograms in a tropical climate requires serious structural engineering.

Standard butt hinges cannot bear this cantilevered load without dragging on the threshold within months. More critically, a slab of solid timber this large will bow if exposed to intense midday sun on its external face while air conditioning chills its internal face.

Konkaya solves this with an internal structural composite core: we embed twin vertical cold-rolled steel box tubes within the center of the Sapele Mahogany core, anchored with tension rods. This internal skeleton absorbs differential thermal expansion, keeping the door dead straight.

We hang every pivot door on concealed heavy-duty dormakaba hydraulic floor springs rated for 250kg, embedded into reinforced concrete floor slabs. The top pivot features double needle-roller bearings with 3-axis micro-adjustability. The result is a monumental hardwood entrance that glides effortlessly with the touch of a single finger.
Workshop Engineering Rule

Every piece of timber cut at Konkaya is seasoned in-house for a minimum of 21 to 30 days to reach 10%–12% equilibrium moisture content (EMC). We seal all six faces of every component with industrial polyurethane moisture barriers to resist coastal humidity and dry Harmattan winds.
